I recently got my nails done and had a slight cut, what are the chances of getting infections or possibly aids?

she cut my finger then started to finish filing the fingers on my right hand and she held it while she was finishing the rest of the fingers. after that it started bleeding so she used some sort of antiseptic liquid to stop it from bleeding. after when all the filing was done on both hands another lady was going to paint my nails and i told her that i got cut.. so then she got a antiseptic swab and cleaned it more.I recently got my nails done and had a slight cut, what are the chances of getting infections or possibly aids?
HIV does not live outside the human body for very long at all. Also, HIV is actually, despite popular belief, not at all easy to catch. Most of the time you have to have direst contact with the infected blood, or, like with sharing needles, be injecting it into your blood stream. The chances of you getting HIV from the way you described are so small that I wouldn't even bother getting tested for it.

I would be much more worried about getting a staph infection. Just be weary if you spike a fever in the next few days.I recently got my nails done and had a slight cut, what are the chances of getting infections or possibly aids?
IF the tools used to cut you were not sterilized properly and they cut a person with an infection or HIV/Aids then it is entirely possible to get it. Did you see the staff putting the tool in a sterile solution or oven? Or did you watch them give someone else a manicure then just wipe off the tools and give another customer a manicure? Wiping does not sterilize. They use special solutions and things to do it up to code!
they replace (or they should) all of those tools every time. if its not a disposable one, then they are soaked in a blue fluid, which kills everything. and even if that is not the things that happened, the chances of you getting HIV is still quite low.
keep the wound clean %26amp; dry. refrain from manicures if you have open wounds in the future -the salon is at more risk of contamination from the bacteria in/on your body. follow up with your doctor if you notice signs of an infection.
I wouldn't worry about it. They cleaned it for you.

Has anyone resulted in fungus infections getting nails ';done';?

i have had my nails ';done'; for about 17 yrs but now have recently noticed discoloration on a couple of them. i removed the acrylic overlay. but now i wonder will my nails ever return to normal ? at the moment i am so done with getting my nails done. i want my regular nails back and i am sure it will take at least 5-6 months to get them back. has anyone else gone through this and did your nails ever return to normal ?Has anyone resulted in fungus infections getting nails ';done';?
We have had a problem with a few of the shops down here not following procedure when doing nails and not disinfecting the tools they use. Many of their customers were getting nail fungus and nail infections. The board of heath shut one of them down. The women that got most of the infections were ones that had holes drilled in the natural nails....

Fungal toenail infection: Have you cured it? What worked? I have had it on two nails for two or three years.?

I aim to get rid of it now.Fungal toenail infection: Have you cured it? What worked? I have had it on two nails for two or three years.?
I'm not sure if this will get rid of it with it being so long there, but you can try it- mix 2 oz grapeseed oil with 2 tablespoons of vinegar and brush it on your toenails with a make up brush or q tip every day.

Otherwise, you may need a medicationFungal toenail infection: Have you cured it? What worked? I have had it on two nails for two or three years.?
Go to a walk-in clinic and they will perscribe you cream that gets rid of fungal infections. Had a fungal rash on my leg and it went away after I used cream the walk-in clinic dr perscribed me.
actually, just using plain white vinegar works, but it takes a long time. Paint it on your toenails (using a Q-tip) twice a day. My mom had horrible toenails her whole life from when she was a kid- chillblains, etc. and finally at about 85 years of age, she discovered this easy cure. The next time I visited, her feet looked absolutely normal- it was like a miracle!
I dont know if you have lamisil where you live, but its a ointment for athletes foot. Rub that onto your toenails twice daily, and it should go away as your toenail grows out. If that doesnt work, you have to go onto a course of tablets that your doctor can prescribe to you. Hope I helped!

PS- dont paint your toenails until it is completely gone.

The dr also told my mom that the lamisil wont work, but she couldnt afford the meds he wanted to give her so she gave it a shot %26amp; it definitely did work!

Nails infections w/ fake nails?

hi

how does bacteria enter the nails or what-not when you have fake nails? how can i prevent this? what happens when bacteria gets in (i mean nothing is cut and no open skin is bare so....?)

and any fake nail is open to this question but mostly gel or acrylicNails infections w/ fake nails?
ok for the person that said ';look at the ppl that work in the shops they dont wear them'; well you're wrong!!! i'm a nail tech and i wear them(that's how i get my clients) now the asian shops no they dont cause 9 outta 10 they are using illegal products and they dont want to submit themselves to it cause they know its wrong but the ppl that go to them have no clue....EDUCATION is key!!!! and that's what i'm trying to do here....its not about points with me!!!!

now for your question: bacteria only grows if there is air under the tip or the acrylic that's the way water seeps in and forms bacteria.... you can also get a fungus from the nail tech if she/he doesnt clean their implements properly, if they cut your cuticles(which by the way is illegal)which will also open you up for bacteria and fungus and sometimes worse!!!! so you want to make sure that the person servicing you is clean and well educated in the field(it shouldnt be all about applying tips they should educate you as well)...i STRONGLY suggest that if you do get your nails done please go to someone who is professional and STAY away from the asian salons--CHEAP IS NOT ALWAYS BEST!!!! especially when it comes to your safety

to the person that said ';dont get them cause they look horrible and fake'; know what you're talking about before you speak... nail enhancements DONT look fake if they are applied correctly by a licensed nail tech(maybe you tried the home version--and thats why you dont like them)but dont knock/discourage anyone from spending their hard earned money on something they want....

anyways i hope this has answered your questionNails infections w/ fake nails?
This can happen because your nail has no air to breath and you can get fungus try washing your hands and nails very frequently and don't always have your fake nails on
after everything yu do..deffinetely wash yur hands and thts pretty much all i can tell yu or hand sanitizer if yur not near a sink
Have you noticed that the people who own the shops don't wear the products? mmmmm
The glue. Prevent it: Don't get fake nails. They're stupid. They look fake and honestly, what's wrong with your nails? You can barely do anything in them anyway..

Do you think that nail salons can contribute to Hep C and HIV infections?

Have you ever been cut in a nail salon from the drill bits or files that they use on everyone? Do you look the other way thinking that the instruments have not been sterilized, or that it seems that they haven't? Shouldn't there be a sign that says, ';WE STERILIZE?';

This is something that has been bothering me since I started getting my nails done and have been cut so many times. I realize that I try to find the best price and it's my own fault. I've just been thinking differently since the endoscopy situation.

www.mydailypickle.comDo you think that nail salons can contribute to Hep C and HIV infections?
Since HCV is a blood-borne virus, it can鈥攁t least in theory鈥攂e transmitted by contaminated personal items, such as razors or nail care equipment. Any equipment used by manicurists, estheticians, barbers and cosmetologists that may come into contact with blood may transmit the virus. This can happen when a small amount of HCV-containing blood鈥攅ven a tiny amount that is too small to see鈥攕tays on the equipment after it is used on one person, and then comes into contact with the bloodstream (through a cut or other open area on the skin) or mucous membranes (such as mouth or nostrils) of another person on whom the same equipment is later used. Personal equipment that is shared between persons and that can come into contact with blood and spread HCV includes tattooing and body piercing needles and other equipment; cuticle scissors, nail files, and emery boards; razors and hair clippers; hair removal tools such as tweezers and electrolysis equipment; and even hair-cutting scissors and combs.

The transmission of hepatitis through personal care procedures has not been well studied. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not reported documented cases of HCV being transmitted this way. Nevertheless, the agency issued health and safety guideline for personal care professionals in 1985. State laws regarding health and safety standards in personal care settings vary widely. The California Department of Health Services recently released a report about a woman whose only known risk factor for getting hepatitis C was regular visits to a nail salon.

http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/hep鈥?/a>

As Stephanie said, (and this is something we, as a support group, recommend to newly diagnosed people) you should take your own nail tools to the salon and have them use only your tools on you, so as not to spread disease.

Hope this answers your question. Best wishes.Do you think that nail salons can contribute to Hep C and HIV infections?
the only way to make sure hcv infection (or others) are minimized is to purchase your own tools and nail polish.

many people get hcv infection from going to salons!
I would never go to a nail salon that wasn't clean - do research - and if I have a cut or scab I will not go. I think you can catch some kind of infection.....I love having my nails done too - but sometimes I hold my breathe and pray.
Yes they can. some dont use proper cleaning tecniques with the tools and such. Make sure you find a salon that clens thier tools and you can ask them if they seem offened then dont use them. try a higher end salon and even a spa.
i never thought of this sitsuation i think its very possible for infecion to spread this way
Manicures that make your fingers bleed are a risk factor for Hepatitis C.

Nail salons clean their instruments with a blue solution that does NOT kill the Hepatitis C virus. And the hepatitis C virus can live on surfaces for many days. Plus, it takes a very small amout of blood to transmit the hep C virus. I takes a much larger amount to transmit the HIV virus.

Buy your own manicure instruments and ask them to use them whenever you get a manicure.

Approx. 10 yrs ago while over seas I had two toe nails removed due to a fungal infection. Now I regret it.?

I am 35 yrs old 10 yrs ago I was living over seas and contacted a fungal infection on two toes and that time the only option that was offered was removal of the nail and nail root. Now I am back in the states I totally regret the decision I made back then I cant wear open toe shoes, I cant polish my nails and my daughters are now at the age where they would like to have me go out with them and purchase pretty sandles I am so ambarrassed to be seen w/o closed toe shoes. I have tried the fake toe nails and they just fall right off. I have even tried to polish the top of the toes to make it look like there's a nail there, but that too is useless it just peels right off within hours. Does any one know of any procedures out there avail to someone in my situation, I would be willing to try anything out there that would take care of my problem once in for all. Serious responses onlyl. I appreciate your time. Thank you.Approx. 10 yrs ago while over seas I had two toe nails removed due to a fungal infection. Now I regret it.?
How do they look? I mean, if you were looking at your feet as if they were on a different person, would you notice them right off? I've seen a lot of people missing nails (and even toes) wearing open toed shoes. You are more conscious of it because they are yours but other people probably won't notice at all, or care if they do.

You could always try getting the spots where the nails would have been tattooed, so it would appear there were nails there. With many people their nail isn't much different in appearance than their toe itself, just with a bit darker tone and edging. Other than that I can't think of anything that you could do, really. I've never heard of anything to replace the actual nail.Approx. 10 yrs ago while over seas I had two toe nails removed due to a fungal infection. Now I regret it.?
I am surprise that your nail haven't grown back. it is suppose to. people take out toe nails for one reason or another because it grows back. I suggest you go see a pediatrist. good luck
You shouldn't be ashamed that you dont have two toesnails. Your daughters should accept that.

  • Why do I keep getting infections under my cuticle when I don't have acrylic nails?

The last one that I had, the doctor prescribed Keflex for it.Why do I keep getting infections under my cuticle when I don't have acrylic nails?
Well you can get a nifty little device called a cuticle pusher.

Its easy to use and it doesn't hurt. If that doesn't work you should show them to a doctor.

    I hope my letter helps you. %26lt;(*-*)%26gt;

I have a toenail infection it is yellow and a new nail is growing underneath please help i am scared?

i m going to a chropidist on monday and i am a real worrier i need t no what they will do and if they will do it on the first opointment and if it will hurt thank you xI have a toenail infection it is yellow and a new nail is growing underneath please help i am scared?
If a new nail is growing underneath, it's unlikely that anything they do will hurt. They might trim off the infected nail, or they might tell you to wait and let it fall off, because it will come right off. They might also give you some stuff to paint on the toenail to kill the infection.

I stepped on a nail but it wasnt rusty, and i cleaned it, but its white around my wound. Arent infections red?

I just want to know if I have to worry about an infection or not. Someone please help, preferably someone like a doctor or emt or somethingI stepped on a nail but it wasnt rusty, and i cleaned it, but its white around my wound. Arent infections red?
It's an old wives's tale that a rusty nail can lead to tetanus (lockjaw). The rust isn't the problem, tetanus bacteria are.

The tetanus bacteria are ';anaerobic';, that means that they can't reproduce and thrive in the presence of oxygen. That's why puncture wounds carry an increased risk of tetanus - the germs are deep in the wound where they aren't exposed to the air.

You need to have a doctor check the wound and make sure your tetanus vaccine is current.

Why take chances with your health?

Good luck!I stepped on a nail but it wasnt rusty, and i cleaned it, but its white around my wound. Arent infections red?
You need to see a doctor. While it wasn't a rusty nail, it was a puncture, and there is a risk of tetanus, which can be a life-threatening illness. The incubation period for tetanus starts in only a few days and symptoms can come on within a week, so you need to got a shot quickly. The white could be the skin dying, but could also be pus forming from an infection.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetanus
Go to the doctor. No one on Yahoo! Answers will be able to tell you for sure if you have an infected wound or not. Even if it's not infected, it's better to be safe than sorry. :)
Infections are red,the choice to go or not is yours.
the white could be dead skin?

A fungal infection of nails is referred to in ordinary terms as athletes foot. This infection is caused by exposure to continuous wet, heat, and sweating. There are some ways that you can treat it,and possibly cure it. Fill up your bath tub to ankle level.Add 1 teaspoon of clorox bleach to the water. Or see your local pharmacy for a new foot cream called...Healz Plus...
Get some Lamasil and kill those Dermatophytes!
These organisms are called dermatophytes. The infection is also called onychomycosis (ON-i-ko-my-KO-sis). It's caused by an active, live fungus that moves in under the nail.

Why do i have infection on my nails,it get more painful when washing?

It could be any number of reasons. No-one here can cyber diagnose you. you need to go to a doc.

It could be Contact dermatitis brought on by the type of detergent or soap you are using. If it is then you do need to get to the doc to clear it up. As it can spread very quickly

Brown toe nails- is it an infection?

My toe nails have turned brown and they are starting to crack. I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctors.

Can i just go to the drug store and buy a medicine without getting it checkout?Brown toe nails- is it an infection?
It doesn't sound familiar and it doesn't sound good, either. Don't be embarrassed to go to the doctor! That's why they're there! It's their job and, believe me, during their career they've seen much, much worse!Brown toe nails- is it an infection?
It is NOT impossible to get an infection around your nails. Your nail beds are susceptible to infections. This sounds like a fungus. You can get over the counters medications for a fungus, but it's not very safe to use any meds on something when it could be something else. (you could make it worse using anti fungal if it's not a fungus)

Go to your doctor and ask them...
First of all, nails are dead cells. It is clearly impossible to get an infection on dead cells. If you swim a lot, the chlorine can cause your nails to stain. If you are outside, or you don't wear shoes and socks, dirt may cause that. If you smoke, the ashes may cause that too.
i would go to the doctor. it's really nothing to be embarrassed about. i've had my boobs felt and shortly i have to go and have a rectal exam for an excretion problem! so it really is nothing to worry about. :)
Doctors have seen way worse than nasty toenails. Go to the doctor and they will fix the problem.

  • Have any ladies ever gotten a infection from getting manicured nails?

I want to get a french set done, I've never gotten a manicure ever, but want to. Have any of the ladies ever gotten an infection from the nail salon.. you know like what happend to Paula Abdul?????Have any ladies ever gotten a infection from getting manicured nails?
Yes, but on my toe!! You have to make sure that stuff is sterilized and fresh supplies brought out for each customer (nail file, wooden stick, etc.) Also, if they nip your skin, STOP, leave and let it heal .. put some antibiotic ointment on it.

Good Luck to you!Have any ladies ever gotten a infection from getting manicured nails?
Yeah!!! My neice!!! Make sure that the salon that you go to has their instruments in blue sanitizing solution!!! You will know if you start developing a fungus, it will be like an olive green and it takes a while for it to clear up. Making sure the salon practices good sanitation procedures makes you breath a little easier when you go in to have it done.
Yes, I got a NASTY staph infection from getting the cuticle pushed back and could have lost my finger tip.

Don't push back your cuticle - it's there to protect you from germs. My doctor has forbidden me to have any more manicures!
my mom has had a french manicure for ever!!! and of course she re-does it but she has never gotten an infection
Make sure the slaon is clean, that they sterilize their equipment and use fresh tools (when it's possible). Fungal infections are the most commonly spread at salons, due to lack of proper cleaning techniques between clients.

Alan, Yes, but! The white around the nail puncture wound indicates some loss of some skin cells at the puncture wound with resulting accumulation of tissue fluid. If it gets infected, some ';yellow'; from pus cells will develop. Though the nail looked clean, and you have very little chance of getting a deadly tetanus infection, if it has been 10 or more years since your last tetanus immunization, then go now to get a booster of the combined dT (diphtheria %26amp; tetanus) vaccine. Keep permanent records of all your vaccines and the dates for future reference.I stepped on a nail but it wasnt rusty, and i cleaned it, but its white around my wound. Arent infections red?
i stepped on a nail yesterday that for some reason was in my kitchen....it went through my toes sideways...it wasnt rusty..but i've been studying about it online..and i think im gonna go to the doctor and make sure i get a shot..it freaked me out..ive been puttin peroxide on it

Tetanus is caused by horse feces. It has nothing to do with rusty nails.

The connection was made because people who stepped on rusty nails in horse pastures frequently developed tetanus. The nails were from horses that had thrown a shoe.

Tetanus is anaerobic, meaning cannot live in oxygen. Clean the wound as well as you can with hydrogen peroxide. The oxygen bubbles will kill any tetanus you could have picked up. If you can't clean it well or are worried about it, then go see a doctor to clean it for you. BTW the tetanus shot won't do anything for you if there is already tetanus in the wound. The shot is to build your immune system BEFORE you are exposed. If you already have tetanus you'll need the tetanus immunoglobulin, which can help your body fight the existing bacteria.
Best thing to do would still to be to go to the doctor to get a tetanus injection, even if it wasn't rusty. Red doesn't always mean infected, it can mean inflamed. But because yours is white around it it usually means that there is an infection, i would clean the cut with warm salty water. Keep it covered and clean to prevent any more infection. It's hard to pass judgment as I cant see it and i don't know how bad the injury is.

But if you get any symptoms of infection such as a fever or, heat or redness at the sight you need to go to the doctor. Hope i helped. :)
First of all, when was the last time that you had a tetanus shot? You should always get one when you step on something such as a nail that has been outside- rusty or not. Yes, infections are generally red. Make sure you keep it clean %26amp; if you see any changes at all regarding color, get to the Dr. Use some peroxide to clean it out on a daily basis.
Puncture wounds can easily get infected because they are very hard to clean. If your foot starts to get sore or red and swollen around the injury, you need to see a doctor. But even though it is not infected, you should consider having a tetanus shot if you have not had one in the past 10 years..Keep it clean and covered, and use some antibacterial cream on it........
if you haven't had a tetanus shot recently, you need to get one. The infection that is harmful to you will be in your blood stream, not at the sight. You can get lock jaw without any warning with an injury like that. See a doctor!
hey what happens is the nail can push some of your sock up into your foot causing an infection if it starts looking a little black thats blood poision you can loose your foot soak your foot in epson salt and hot water or hyrodgen peroxide is better....
If it's hot, angry red, weeping, smelly, or hurts more than you'd expect - see the doctor.

Can i still get an infection even if my boyfriend washes his hands and keeps his nails clean?

Your infection may not have been from him. So don't blame him for it. Sometimes girls just get infections. If his hands and mouth are sanitized properly, you should be fine. Make sure he brushes his teeth before you let him do anything and always washes his hands before he touches you there. Can i still get an infection even if my boyfriend washes his hands and keeps his nails clean?
i'd be more surprised he doesn't get an infection eating bacteria. lol

so get fingered. keep yourself clean and him and i don't see an issue here
You may wonder to know that our mouth contains greatest amt of bacteria in our body.

Ladies are more prone to infections as their urinary tracts are small.

    Fungal nail infections?

It's really embaressing, I think I have a fungal nail infection. It's on my fingernails, and it's spread to all on both hands except the little fingers. It's been like it for about 4 years now, and I went to my GP a few years ago, and asked about it, and they sent off an 'extract' for examining, but the results showed nothing was wrong with them. But I know I definitely have one! I can't use curanail because that is for two or less nails. What can I use/What should I do?

I'm 15 years old, if that helps.

Also, what medication or prescription should I use?

    Thank you!Fungal nail infections?
I've had a fungal nail infection on a few of my toenails for several years. I also went to the doctor about it and was sent away - nothing wrong with me supposedly...

I suggest that you go back to your doctor, not to say that you are not happy with the previous diagnosis, but to insist that you _do_ have a fungal nail infection and that you _do_ want it sorted out.

The 'cure' is usually something like a six to twelve month course of antibiotics. (The antibiotics have to be taken for as long as it takes for the infected nail to grow out.)

If you manage to read up about exactly what type of infection you have, then that might help sway your case that something is wrong...rather than you 'just having something that the doctor hasn't seen before'.Fungal nail infections?
Have your mom make you an appointment with an infectious disease doctor. Any fungal infection can and does spread, as in your case. Some people get this by using dirty nail files that have been used by someone having the same thing. Since you've had this for so long it would be hard to figure out where it came from, but for the best possible answer for this is to see this type of doctor asap for a proper diagnosis. Then they can finally put you on the right track to living without it. Good luck and God Bless
Fungal infections involving nails are quite common, however it is vital to confirm that this is what is going on by performing microscopy and mycological culture. Your GP has apparently this on one occasion. It is possible the result was a false negative and it is well worth requesting that he repeats the test.

If this is again negative it is possible that you have a nail dystrophy rather than a fungus. These have no specific treatments but in some cases are related to systemic illness which may respond to treatment. Examples include psoriasis.
If the results showed nothing, it's possible it's not a fungal infection at all. Psoriasis can can nail thickening and flaking similar to that of a fungal infection, so perhaps enquire about this when you make your next appointment.

Doctors aren't always the oracle of knowledge people think - i was wrongly diagnosed with asthma when in fact I actually had a severe lung infection (slightly different, I know), so just bear that in mind. 'Shop around' for different opinions. Hope it clears up soon :)
As you know, an infection of nail fungus occurs when fungi infect one or more of your nails. A nail fungal infection may begin as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges 鈥?an unsightly and potentially painful problem. These infections usually develop on nails continually exposed to warm, moist environments, such as sweaty shoes or shower floors. Nail fungus isn't the same as athlete's foot, which primarily affects the skin of the feet, but at times the two may coexist and can be caused by the same type of fungus. An infection with nail fungus may be difficult to treat, and infections may recur. But medications are available to help clear up nail fungus.

My 4 yr old boy bites his nails so much that now he has an infection/growth on his thumb, what do we do?

he bit most of his nails completely off. we even put hot sauce on his hands sometimes so he doesn't bite, but he still does. now on his thumb there is what looks like an infection, it's really small, but it concerns me. other than taking him to the doc to check out the infection I don't know what to do to make him stop.My 4 yr old boy bites his nails so much that now he has an infection/growth on his thumb, what do we do?
You shouldn't be asking ';other than the doc'; as taking him to the doctor is the first thing you should do. Your son has an infection, which should signal to you that he needs medical attention!

Also a good ped will provide information as how to stop it. If you feel that you don't have a good pediatrician, then find one that you can trust. Our ped gives us info for everything, from diaper rash to potty training to nutrition, to everything that we would ever need to ask. He even double checks at physicals to make sure the kids wear bike helmets! My 4 yr old boy bites his nails so much that now he has an infection/growth on his thumb, what do we do?
Sounds like he needs a toy or something else to keep himself occupied with. I think they sell those thumpsucker caps at the local kids ur us. I would also talk to your pediatrician and see what they recommend. Also, try telling the child in a nice way to stop.
GRANDMA HERE.... Somewhere I heard that it comes from a vitamin deficiency. Ask the doctor.
It's embarassing to admit, but I used to suck my thumb when I was a kid. My parents used to put this stuff on my thumb that made it taste horrible. That made me stop.
My son does the same thing and no one could give me advice. I tried some nail polish, yes on my son, and told him not to bite his pretty fingers. It worked. Fortunately my husband was open minded, so i bought cheap dark blue and black nail polish. If this doesn't work in the long term then we are both in the same frustrating situation.
Tell him how bad it is for him to bite his nails-tell him if he dosent stop, you will have to take him to the doctor for a ';stop nail biting';SHOT!!...or put gloves on his hands.
When my bro used to bite nails, my parents used to give him one tight slap. He stopped it in a month or so.

  • Nail Infections?

My wife has Nail disorder. Her nail sheds in a year and new nails are distorted and yellow.Doctor said she has fungal infection, she has taken all the anti fungal in the market but no effect. Finally she had biopsy done which said no fungal infection.

Can any one tell that biopsy is a sure shot thing.

    Any alternate treatment.Nail Infections?
Miracle Oil is a natural healing oil that is perfect for everyone's medicine cabinet! It helps and aids with scars, cuts, scrapes, cuticles, dandruff treatment, and lots more! It is a natural anti-fungal, anti-septic oil. Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic, anti-fungal germicide,

    Great for cuticle treatments.Nail Infections?
I am glad that you asked this question.

First, a biopsy is a microscopic evaluation of the tissues. Fungus looks characteristics and is highly unlikely a trained pathologist would miss a fungus.

Second, I would either seek a referral to dermatologist or just go to one on your own and get to the bottom of this.

Can biting you nails give you a bad finger infection?

i bite them all the time and this is the first time i got infectedCan biting you nails give you a bad finger infection?
It can give you an infection which, untreated, can lead to further infection. Try a little foamy hydrogen peroxide or wash thoroughly, dry, and put on anti-biotic cream. In both instances you need a band-aid if you have one big enough. Also be on guard for red streaks extending from the infected site; that would indicate a blood infection for which you must get help, pronto. Can biting you nails give you a bad finger infection?

A nail shot into my middle finger and i think that it hit the bone what kind of infection could i get?

my name is matt and i work in a pallet shop building pallets, while nailing the decking down the nail hit a knot in the wood and shot into my middle finger. this has happened before but it wasnt near as bad and i know i didnt hit bone then. this happened two days ago and its been getting progressively bigger and its turning an irretated looking red. im broke without insurence please someone tell me its really not that serious.A nail shot into my middle finger and i think that it hit the bone what kind of infection could i get?
Matt, if this happened at work, your work should have insurance on you for anything that happens while at work. You can go to the doctor and turn the bill in to your work and they have to pay it. Now go to the doctor and get it looked at properly.A nail shot into my middle finger and i think that it hit the bone what kind of infection could i get?
Depending on where the nail was manufactured, it may have been forged with a chromium coating. Chromium can cause serious infections. You should be concerned about the bone, which is most likely fractured. Both will required proper medical attention.

File an injury report with your employer. You have 72 hours to get that done for the company insurance to pay for the medical treatment. After you file, go straight to the emergency room and get it taken care of.

My nails are always chipping at the tips and look flaky. Its not fungul infection for sure. What to do?

keep them filed and clear polish to prevent chipping...also try Biotin it is good for hair and nails. My nails are always chipping at the tips and look flaky. Its not fungul infection for sure. What to do?
My nails have been dreadful. I started using Dr lewinn's oil formula a few weeks ago and i'm seeing a dramatic improvement. just follow the instructions.

I'm also using a good quality emery board to tidy my nails every night, so there's no little chips or ragged bits to catch and cause more damage. My nails are always chipping at the tips and look flaky. Its not fungul infection for sure. What to do?
look for any products that say they have keratin in them. pamper your self to a manicure without artificial nails and let your tech suggest some products she has on hand. make sure it is a reputable salon. you don't want a fungus on top of that.
maybe you could try AVON STRONG NAILS it stopped mine chipping and nw they look beautiful! hope it helps!
    Drink more milk and jello
Get a manicure. 15 dollars every 2 weeks, and you will not have to worry about your nails anymore.

    Nails infection?

last sunday i accidently had something under a fingernail, i removed that but since then its red and since yesterday theres pus coming out from under my fingernail. so is there something i can do to treat this infection? or i really need to see a doctor?Nails infection?
I think at this stage you just need to be sure that you keep it clean and probably dress it with a band aid and some alcohol a couple times a day. If it does get worse, or if the infection stay longer than a couple of days, set up a time to go see your doctor. You'll live...Nails infection?
If you don't fix this right away, you will lose your nail. ( at least as far back as the injury goes) Try soaking your nail in a little cup of hydrogen peroxide...then maybe stuff a little antibiotic lotion under there.(with a q-tip...maybe) Use a band-aid until the infection goes away...then let the air get to it, so it will heal. Good luck!
soak it good in warm water~

    pour some peroxide on it~

    fill the hole with neosporin~

cover finger tip with a bandage~

    soak again~

    see how it's looking~

    repeat if necessary~

give it a chance to dry out well in between~

    Happy, healthy fingernail~!~
Need to see a Dr. to get a antibiotic that will help.
You really need to see a doctor. Right now you can thoroughly clean the area and apply and antibiotic ointment. But, you need to see a doctor to avoid a blood infection. It is hard to efficiently clean a wound in that location. You probably could benefit from a course of antibiotics. Good health.
You can soak it in Epsom salt.

Or you can try this seemingly crazy concoction that actually does work:

Peel a small potato - scrape it so you get a liquidy pulp like mass of potato goo. Take a sterile needle and pop open the infected site if it is not already oozing. Pack this potato pulp around it. Wrap your finger with the potato pulp up with gauze or a handkerchief. Go to bed. When you wake up the next day, remove the wrapping and pulp. Your finger will be fine.

I know it sounds crazy, but I swear it works.
i would get a warm cup ful of water and add a capful of savlon to it and dip your finger in it for a minute morning and night drying it fully.

Keep doing this for a week and you'll see a result

My 4 yr old by bites his nails so much that now he has an infection/growth on his thumb, what do we do?

other than obviously taking him to the doc. the growth is really small, but he bit most of his nails off. Everything we try doesn't work. Yes, my mom just put gloves on my hand and put yucky stuff on my fingers so when I tried to bite them... Yuck!

  • Acrylic nails and infections? my nail {or under my nail} looks light green l?

My acrylic nail came off 5 days ago and my nail was discolored. It has not gotten worse and has no pain. I have heard some times this may happen and will grow out. Has anyone had this happen before? Should i be worried?Acrylic nails and infections? my nail {or under my nail} looks light green l?
when your nails are done with acrylic bacteria can get underneath from not cleaning the nails properly or for the salon not sterilizing their tools properly..even if it has not gotten worse or has any pain it is still a kind of infection from the use of unsterile tools or unproper handwashing. go to your doctor so they can give you some antibiotics for the infection. My cousin used to have this happen all the time and it was from the salon not sterilizing or cleaning their equipment..this happens often .but she ended up losing her real fingernails ..get medical attention asap it may seem like nothing but it could turn out worse than what it seems

Nail fell off now the nailbed growing into the skin causing infection and pain?

My toenail fell off in January after being pushed off by a new nail (after being lifted after running a half marathon). Underneath there's a hump which goes to half way along the nail area, it's relatively hard... I'm presuming this is the nailbed? As the nail is growing it's pushing the nailbed into the skin and piercing it causing infection and ALOT of pain. I've never lost a toenail before but this doesn't seem to be normal? Help!Nail fell off now the nailbed growing into the skin causing infection and pain?
no this is not normal regrowth of a nail if it is pussing or any foul odor is present than it isdefinitelyy infected try visiting a podiatrist or if you re in that much pain head or a emergency room they will give you the right treatment and provide antibiotics.Nail fell off now the nailbed growing into the skin causing infection and pain?
Soak your foot in a warm solution of water and epsom salt. This should help relieve some pain. If you are still having problems in a couple of days, go see a doctor.
This happened to a friend of mine recently, and she had to go in and get the nail removed. It's a surgical procedure, I believe, and while it takes a bit of time to get back to walking normally, it's better than ingrown nails...

Can you get infections when you get pedicures at a nail salon type place?

According to the Tyra Banks show you can get infections. . . but I forgot what she said, sorryCan you get infections when you get pedicures at a nail salon type place?
Yes, you definitely can. Be sure that your salon practices appropriate sanitation; if this sort of infection happens more than once 1) find a new salon and 2) report the old one to the health department! Can you get infections when you get pedicures at a nail salon type place?
fungal spores from nail clippings and burring procedures can result in lung fungal infection, nail fungus(might take months for it to show),,,,the place has to observe state regs about ascepsis in doing business,,,,,,,besides fungus theres 30 kinds of bacteria that can cause skin infection ,,,,,,,
supposedly you can, but i heard that if they cut of ur cuticules it causes infection but ive done them more than once and thank god nothing yet, i guess it also depends on ur skin type
    Yes you can...I did.
    Hi from France 鈾?br>

I think it's possible, however most nail salons are clean ...

    Have a nice day,

    Cat.
yes...you could get some fungal infections easily and even from the person giving the pedicure if she's infected with some skin disease.
you could, if theyre not keen on hygiene

ideally the equipment used should be sterilized so as to be free from germs but we all know some shops cut corners.

better you do it yourself its cheaper and you could minimize infection and because it is you thats doing the cutting and the pushing , pain and injuries are minimized.
SURE IF THE PLACE IS DIRTY.
that would be a #1 place d/t peolpe not sanitizing properly between customers
    most definitely
yes you can. if things like nail files and nail clippers haven't been properly dissinfected., stuff like fungus can easily be past on. eewwwww!
absolutley. they can use not pure antibacterial cleaner because its cheap for them... also they are supposed to clean between clients (ALL their tools) AND not reuse certain files and whatnot. I personally went to a shop and noticed they did this and i left. you can find what salons should be doing on the state cosmetology licensing board website.
hi, yes you can get very nasty infections

If they re use towels and dont disinfect them you can ger a bacterial skin infection

when you go please make sure to ask them to give you a frsh towel and see to it that you carry your own Pumic stone and other things you will need to invest in a pedicure set that way it wiil be your stuf they use

I had a small infection at the side of my thumb nail about 4 weeks ago. I was prescribed?

Rifampin and Doxycycline because I am a Staph carrier. I took that for 10 days and i seemed to get better until I go off the medication. I had thyroid surgery and was put back on Doxycycline and my thumb got better but it still hurt a little. My question is today it looks like my nail is going to come off. Is that normal for such a small infection. Could it have been something else? If so what?I had a small infection at the side of my thumb nail about 4 weeks ago. I was prescribed?
My uneducated guess is that it could've been a combination of everything your bod's been going through. If that nail is coming off, it's probably better off to grow a new one, and there might have been more fungus than just the staph.

Have the doc take a peek anyway, the next time you go in, you'll rest easier then.

I had a small infection at the side of my thumb nail about 4 weeks ago. I was prescribed?
It's possible that this is a result of your chronic status. Have your doctor take a look at your thumb.

I got an Infection from a manicure that turned my nail green...How can I disguise it?

My cuticle was cut and now about 1/3 of my nail is green due to an infection in the nail bed. the dermatologist said it would take about 6 months to return to normal. How can I disguise this ugly thing without using nail polish?

I've been using a band-aid on it for the last week or so but if you can come up with a more subtle option please let me know. Also any tips if you have.

Thank YouI got an Infection from a manicure that turned my nail green...How can I disguise it?
Band aids, or gloves would be probably your only options. But the color will probably fade as your treatment progresses.I got an Infection from a manicure that turned my nail green...How can I disguise it?
You can't disguise it without nail polish, that's the only way to hide it. Or just keep using band aids. DId they give you anything to put on it? There are alot of fungus (it is a fingus) solutions you can buy in the pharmacy that may help to minimize the green a little quicker.
You will almost always have to cover this kind of infection up with nail polish. SORRRRRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
    try scrubbing it with acetone
    green nail polish duh
well, honestly - you should let the nail breath as much as possible. don't worry about a band-aide or anything of the nature. all you gotta do is allow the body some time to recover, keep healthy so the recovery is as quick as possible, and you won't have to see the green nail anymore.

if you're being treated for the infection, it is most likely not going to stay green anyway (the color is a side effect of the bacteria/fungus that caused the problem, as soon as that's killed, the color should go away) the nail is more probable to stay weak and just take time to grow out the damaged skin.

    - also, 1/3 of a nail is not that big an area...you're probably the only one who notices it -

I have a finger infection from my acrylic nails?

So the doctor put me on Keflex 3x a day for 7 days. I have been taking it since lat thursday, so its been 3-4 days being on the antibiotics. i noticed that it kinda looks better, but it also looks like its trying to spread still. Does Keflex ALWAYS work? Do you think it will get worse before better type of thing....I know i havent finished my script, but i didnt think it would keep spreadingI have a finger infection from my acrylic nails?
hmmm, most of that sort of infection is fungal, not bacterial, I think I would go back and ask the doctor about adding an antifungal medication to your current prescription.

  • What happens when an infection occurs under acryllic nails?

While I'm a huge fan of acrylic nails, I'm sure you know they are completely damning to your real nails. That aside, when you have some type of infection under the acrylic, you'll notice that they may turn black or green. You should remove the nails... soaking them in finger nail polish remover will soften them up and take them off. Throuroughly clean your nail beds and sterilize with peroxide. I would also recommend that you get a Cortizone cream or Anti-fungal and apply to your nails.

Now, chances are, you received the infection from the salon where you had your nails put on. That could come from an uncleansed work station or tools, which is completely unacceptable. What happens when an infection occurs under acryllic nails?
Sometimes you have to get rid of the nails in order to get rid of the infection. It is hard to treat the infection when it is under the fake nail because you cannot get to it.What happens when an infection occurs under acryllic nails?
    Go to a dermatologist immediately.
Believe me,I have had the same problem the only thing you cann do is go to the doctor before you end up loosing all the nail and when the new nail begins to grow back they are never look the same I don't think you got the infection from the salon I know I din't I always had my nails done at the same salon and then 1 time I got the infection I tried everything cortizon and finally I had to go to the doctor and get a anti fungal cream and then it took about 2 monts before the funges went away I had to stop putting my hand in water I had to wear gloves when I washed dishes and did any house work it was terrible and to this day I do not have any nail put on Yeah I miss how nice my hands looked but after that experience I thought about what looked better my real nails or the fungesSometimes food gets under the nail when you eat wash dishes and not always can we get it out even though we wash are hands and have our nails done regular but the funges can begin immediatly so my advice is before it gets any worse go to the doctor and get the anti fingal cream and don't have your nails done maybe if everything grows back ok and you still want to get your nails done then only have them done on occasions thanks
A couple of things can happen; one you can lose the underlying fingernail or two, the underlying nail can become deformed. What is really bad is if the infection gets under your fingernail and the nail becomes permanently deformed or the nail bed no longer will grow a nail.

I finally got my ingrown toe nail cut today, and my Doctor put some medicine, will the infection come back?

he said i dont have to go over this procedure ever again. so what was that medicine, he put on my toe againI finally got my ingrown toe nail cut today, and my Doctor put some medicine, will the infection come back?
The nail bed has been killed off, so the nail will not grow back.I finally got my ingrown toe nail cut today, and my Doctor put some medicine, will the infection come back?
Speaking from a lot of experience with this... I used to have chronic ingrown toenails and I probably had it cut out 20+ times. I had this procedure done where it is supposed to be permanent. But it never took effect on me and I kept getting them back over and over again. It got to the point that the doctor stopped charging me anything and cut them out for free. He couldn't explain why mine wouldn't go away. After moving to a larger city I finally found a doctor that did the job. He used laser treatment and this finally ended all my problems. That was 2 years ago and still nothing has come back. It should heal up after having it cut but don't think that the procedure is 100%.
IT WASN'T THE MEDICINE, IT WAS THE CUTTING!!!!
You need to make sure you dont cut your toe nails short or incorrectly again, you should cut them straight accross.

Infection in/one cudical of finger nail?

it started off just hurting,i thought maybe i cut my finger..and then my skin on top of my finger just above my cudical started peeling, and then started hurting really bad, every day i had to put a band-aid over it to stop it from getting irritated.well now it looks like i have a burn on my finger and looks to be spreding a bit, it doesnt hurt anymore but its starting to peel again.any ideas of what this is? has anyone ever had anything happen like this..should i call my doctor to have it checked out?Infection in/one cudical of finger nail?
Run some hot water (as hot as you can stand) and add about a quarter cup of salt. Soak it for about 10 minutes a few times a day. After you soak it put polysporin on it. This should help within a day, if not see your doctor.Infection in/one cudical of finger nail?
You better check with your doctor. you might have a staph infection. could be serious.
well what color is it? if its turning blue or something like that see a doctor

How to treat Infection of the skin around or under the nails?

my sister just called me and told me that her fingertips around the nail that she bit off is swollen, red and she has some pus! this has happened to me before because i am a nail bitter too but it cleared up all by itself. I was just wondering how can she treat this at home? i was thinking by washing her hands with antibacterial soap and applying something like alcohol or what should she do?How to treat Infection of the skin around or under the nails?
Apply a cream like Neosporin to the red areas to prevent further infection. And if it does not clear up in a few days, see a doctor before it gets really bad.How to treat Infection of the skin around or under the nails?
    Peroxide and then some antibiotic.
SOAK YOUR FINGER IN VERY WARM WATER FOR ABOUT 15 MIN. THREE TIMES A DAY.

AS A PERSON WHO WORKED IN THE MED. FIELD,THE WASHING OF HANDS CONSTANTLY WOULD DRY OUT MY NAIL CUTICLES, CAUSING INFECTIONS UNDER THE EDGE OF MY NAILS.
go to a nail salon they sell treatments for anything wrong with your nails or hands!
Lamisil and I know you have seen the commercial but since it did not pertain to you then you were not listening.
She could soak her finger in a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide. That'll seep under her nail and clean the wound out.
    soak in apple cider vinegar
Bacitracin and band.aids, and stop biting your nails to the quick
it is infected alright.do wash it with clean water and soap and keep it dry after washing. Bacteria thrive in damp places...so keeping the infected area clean and dry will help in it's healing process.
    try tea tree oil
antibacterial and alcohol will burn if she has open sores. I would recommend getting TEA TREE OIL. You can find it at any health food store, maybe even wal-mart. It's a natural disinfectant and sterilizer and will help it clear up faster than anything. I use it on my toenails, fingernails, burns, cuts.
Well. Alcohol would dry out the skin which I don't think would be good for it. But overall, I think that what you said is a go. Use peroxide maybe.
If you apply alcohol it would dry up the skin. She could probalby clean it with alcohol and then apply neosporin + pain relief (if she's in a little pain). She could just buy the plain neosporin, and apply a clean bandage to it. I would probably change it twice a day.

Do nail fungal infections (really bad ones) cause severe blistering around the nail and down the finger?

I know I have a fungal infections on 4 of my nails from wearing artificial nails, and it's getting worse, but is it normal to have blisters (lots of tiny water filled ones) all up and down your fingers? I went to the doc and she presecibed me Lamisil, and an antibiotic, however, i'm thinking I may have come in contact with poison ivy, and that's what the blisters are? I don't know. Is the blistering normal with really bad nail infections?Do nail fungal infections (really bad ones) cause severe blistering around the nail and down the finger?
Take the medications prescribed by your doctor. stay away from wearing artificial nails until after it clears up. see a skin doctor about the poison ivy and ask what's the cause of the blisters.Do nail fungal infections (really bad ones) cause severe blistering around the nail and down the finger?
    yes it does

    go to a doctor

Stepped on a nail, do I have an infection?

Around Janurary I stepped on a nail in my carpet. Now, being that it is July, the hole is still in my foot and it hurts slightly when pressure is put on it. The hole now feels like a bump, and since I didnt treat the puncture right when it happened Im afraid that I might have an infection.

People keep saying to go to the doc to get antibiotics, but right now Im just trying to figure out if signs of slight redness and pain are normal. Do I have an infection?Stepped on a nail, do I have an infection?
Pain and redness, 6 months later, are not ';normal';. Yes, you have an infection.

Have you had a tetanus shot in recent history? Unsterilized metal puncturing your skin can give you tetanus, which can cause all kinds of nastiness, like lock jaw.Stepped on a nail, do I have an infection?
From the sound of it, it seems like your injury has tried to keloid. You should've cleaned the cut with peroxide and gone to the doctor immediately after stepping on the nail. They would've given you a tetanus shot or booster and sent you on your way. As it is now, you probably do have an infection, albeit a mild one. If you absolutely do not want to go to the doctor, take a few tylenol and wait a day. However, if you start to develop a fever, you should go to Emergency immediately lest the infection have time to spread through your brain and leave massive damage in its wake.
There may be an infection. When that had happened, you should have gone to a doctor because they could have treated it so that there could not be an infection. Since it has been this long, i don't think there would be an infection because it has been so long since you stepped on the nail. But, there still could be something that is either causing the bump, or causing some pressure. I think you should just have it checked out.
well, depending on the nail, like for say is it was rusty then most likely could be infected. it has also been a few months, so that could be another bad sign. i would look to see if it is pinkish around the wound, like u said redness. ive been told by a doctor that that means it could be infected. i also tried using Imodium salt or what ever its called. it kinda help.

well hope this helps some, if not id take you friends advice sometimes it is better to see the doc.
you very well might..i mean im not a nurse or anything but i am a cna and i work around infections a lot...so it is reddened? is it slightly warm to the touch? and if it is still painful and its been that long you more than likely do have an infection you really should go see a Dr. before it gets any worse because if worst comes to worst you could get gaingreen
Redness and pain are the two hallmark symptoms of infection. It sounds like you need to see a doctor and if you haven't had a tetnus shot in 10 years, he'll probably give you a booster--an 7-month old injury which is still infected needs attention.
Why wouldn't you go to the doctor. It's a quick trip that could potentially save you from a great deal of damage. Just go and make sure, or you could regret it.
I agree with everyone else, go see a doctor. There's nothing better. Don't get it dirty, wash it, bandage it for now, but when you can, SEE A DOCTOR. Hope this helps!
You should have had a Tetanus booster shot straight away. Go to the doctor ASAP, because you don't want tetanus, also known as lockjaw, which can be fatal. Run girl, run!
I would, I go to the doctors for any problem (gotta love Canadian free healthcare).

I would talk to someone older than you or someone who would know what is wrong.

But for saure go to the doctors!
most likely yes and you should defiantly go to the doctors for antibiotics and ya especially if its swelled up and in pain when applied pressure.... go to doctor
You definitely need to see a doctor if it hasn't healed after all this time. You need antibiotics and a tetanus shot (if you haven't had one in the last 8 years).

    Good luck, sweetie!
    You probiably have tetnus!

    I suggest seeing a doctor...
Yes. Go to the doc and get antibiotics.
you have 4 more days to live, then from there on your going to be x_x

This Maybe Be Gross But.. I Got An Infection By My Toe Nail...?

My big toe on my left foot was hurting on the left side of the nail, unbearably and it was red and swollen and for the first few days I noticed when I pushed this clearish yellow puss would come out. Well the pussing had stopped but it was still red and swollen and hurt terribly so I went to the doctor.

She perscribed me some antibiotics for 2 weeks and to soak my toe in warm water with Epsom salt, then ';milk'; the puss out, and if it didnt go away or get better by the en of my perscription then to make another appointment for her to cut it open.

So Ive been taking the antibiotics for 3 days now and soaking it a few times each day in the water with Epsom salt, still its not getting better.. which I know it will take a while so Im not rushing or anything. Only there is no puss coming out either when I try to ';milk'; it out, and it hurts just as much as it did before going to the doctor.

So today I was walking and I had bumped it on the clothes hamper in my laundry room, not really hard or anything but of course it hurt bc its infected, then it started to bleed.

It has never bled before, so is there could there be something else wrong with it? Its not a ingrown toe nail or anything so why would bumping it on something make it bleed, wouldnt it just make puss come out?

I just looked on the receipt paper they gave me when I left and it says its called Cellulitis, has anyone had this problem with their foot and if so how did you get rid of it?This Maybe Be Gross But.. I Got An Infection By My Toe Nail...?
    Hi there,

Cellulitis is inflammation/infection of the skin or subcutaneous tissues. Since it is an infection, yes, you could see blood even without puss coming from it just from a bump. This would be the blood (cells) that is building up around the infection and fighting it (Not puss, because the meds. and blood cells are working) It is normal. Like you said, you have only taken the antibiotics for 3 days and you know it takes more time to heal. So continue to take them.

It should heal on it's own with the prescription. But like your Doctor said, you might need to have it lanced and have a lavage (Draining/cleaning). This would be the worst case scenario though. It should heel like I said with the meds.

Just be more careful with it and try to keep it elevated when sitting/lying to relieve the pressure/soreness you will feel from the blood going to it to do it's work (This usually causes throbbing sensations).

Hope this puts your mind at ease a bit.

    Good luck and take care!

By the way, I was disappointed! I was expecting something actually....Gross! LOL!This Maybe Be Gross But.. I Got An Infection By My Toe Nail...?
Cellulitis just means an infection in the tissue. Salt water soaks and antibiotics are usually the answer. You may have a portion of the nail that is growing in to the tissue, in which case the continued irritation makes it difficult to heal and surgically removing part of the nail may be needed. Good luck.
    Hi,

I just saw towards the end you said it was not an ingrown toe nail. So, I guess the information from the above 2 answers is better than what I was going to say about it being an ingrown toe nail.

    Hope it gets better soon.
don't cut the toenail so short. use neosporin.

use gracedrem cream and make sure to keep your toes and feets dry. if you have wear shoes, then put some talcum powder over your feet before putting socks on. Also, if you feel like ithcing, then try to be gentel and clear the liqud with a clear cloth or cotton. Make sure not to share your clothes, socks, towel etc with other family members. Bad infection from my hang nail!!! PLEASE HELP!! IT'S PAINFUL!!!! :(?

i pulled a hangnail on my right ring finger, and it's become infected and swollen. it looks like there's an olive on top of my finger :( it hurts really really badly, and there's pus coming out of it. are there any home remedies i can try for swelling?? any over the counter drugs i can take? anything? i took an anti-inflamatory earlier and it hasnt really worked, so i'm looking more for home remedies. thank you so much :)Bad infection from my hang nail!!! PLEASE HELP!! IT'S PAINFUL!!!! :(?
Go to your local health food store and get a bottle of Colloidal Silver. Look for the ppm on the label. Usually 10 ppm is sufficient to handle any infection and is safe for human consumption. If you get one that is like 600 ppm, then I would only use that for external application.

Either way, the stuff really works and when you see how well and how quickly, you'll never be without it again. Just take a q-tip and apply it to the affected area several times thoughout the day, or take a bandaid and wet the gauze pad enough to just before it drips and you'll have a more steady application with less hassle. When it dries out, replace it with a new one till your infection is cleared up.Bad infection from my hang nail!!! PLEASE HELP!! IT'S PAINFUL!!!! :(?
    neosporin!!!
Get a bowl of water as hot as you can stand to touch. Soak a cloth in it and wring it out. Press is down onto the infected area and hold it there for about thirty seconds. Repeat about four or five times. Put polysporin on it and bandage it. Do the whole thing over again in about four hours. When it finally drains, don't be alarmed at how much junk is in there. Keep using the polysporin until there's no longer any sign of infection.
Well get a hot washcloth, some peroxide and a needle and cottony thread'; almost yarn like';. Gently place the hot washcloth over your finger for at most a few mins. This will help draw some of the infection out before we get to the rest. Second wash your hands super well and splash a bit of peroxide on them before moving to step 3 and 4.

Step 3 in a small bowl place the needle and thread in it for 3 mins max, remembering NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING as your hands are sanitized. Sorry just reminding you..lol.

ok after the 3 mins are up thread the needle with the thread and gently poke the needle thru and drag the thread all the way thru the puncture wounds dragging the infection out, its gonna hurt for a bit but belive me this works ive done it several times on myself and my husband. Now that you have gotten a bit chunk of the infection out, re apply the hot washcloth bringing any more infection to the surface to be removed. This might need to be repeated several times over the next few days so be patient I know it hurts like He**. But keep doing the above til all the infection is out and it starts to heal. During the day your gonna need to keep it covered just a heads up k. Good luck.

  • Infection under tonail? ( Getting nail taken off tomorrow)?

My daughter is 13 , for the last 7 weeks shes had an infection under her big toenail , and has been to the doctor every few days , and has taken a course of antibiotics and has had her toe cleaned and dressed also many times. Today the doctor sugested she should have her toenail taken off tomorrow and said it will be better in a few days. He thinks it was black nailvarnish that caused the infection . I am concerned as to why it has not healed with all the dressings etc.. When she gets the nail off will this cure the problem? or could there be any other cause for this not healing.

    Please Help .

Thanks !Infection under tonail? ( Getting nail taken off tomorrow)?
My self , my ds, and my dd, we have all had this problem. They give the toe a shot so you can't feel it. They only take some of the side that is infected. Then she put in a cetain acid wich makes it not grow back. I have had this done almost two years ago and not any more problems. It does hurt but it feels so much better then having a infected toe.

Why toe nail fungal infections are difficult to eradicate?

thanks for answeringWhy toe nail fungal infections are difficult to eradicate?
Their location. For oral meds, it's hard to get enough medicine down the toe %26amp; into the nail to kill the infections. Some of the meds are good, others can have unpleasant side effects.

Local treatments are somewhat better. One, an Rx product ';PenLac'; (I think) isn't as effective as the ads state.

Can artficial nails be used while recovering from a fungus infection?

I had acrylic nails and somehow picked up a fungal infection. It seems to be under control but is not gone yet. Someone suggested using artificial plastic nails while recovering. Don't know if this is helping or not. Also does anyone know of any tricks to have decent looking real nails if I give up the artificial ones entirely? I work in a medical office and decent looking hands are almost a have-to. I have VERY weak, flaky raggy real nails. Thanks for any tips. Can artficial nails be used while recovering from a fungus infection?
No. You can't put nails on while trying to get rid of a fungal infection. You can't treat it if you have fake nails covering the nail plate, and you're also providing a breeding ground for further infection.

Don't even paint your nails while treating the infection unless it is the treatment polish, which is clear (gotten at Sallys). Can artficial nails be used while recovering from a fungus infection?
u can use fake nails, but your real nails need time to heal properly before you cover them again. in the meantime, try using opi nail envy, and keeping your nails well groomed. give it some time, and your nails will look great again.

the website for the nail envy is www.opi.com. a little pricey, but made my nails beautiful!
dont use plastic nails while u r recovering. n a good way 2 make your nails look good r 2 file them n put nail hardner on n then make a decision if u r gonna wear the nails anymore or not
no its not recommended that you wear nail enhancements while treating a fungal infection....the fungus 9 times out of 10 didnt come from the enhancement itself....you can truly ONLY get a fungus infection if the nail tech isnt properly sanitizing their emplements....the nail where the fungus is needs to breath and be treated properly with medication....you can get this medication from a pharmacy or from a beauty supply store like sally's....you can also try a product for stronger nails by hard as nails(which you can also get from walgreens or cvs)hope this helps

Can some one get HIV or hepatitis B infection if someone is accidently scratched by finger nail of that person

    No.

HIV is only trasmitted through DIRECT transfer of bodily fluids (blood, seminal and vaginal fluids).

So you can only basically get HIV if you engage in unsafe sex, share hypodermic needles, or someone has a cut, from which blood gets directly into someone else's cut. That's about it.Can some one get HIV or hepatitis B infection if someone is accidently scratched by finger nail of that person
In certain circumstances I suppose it could but the possibility is so remote that it doesn't even need discussing! The HIV virus dies immediately when exposed to air, that's why it has to be transmitted by body fluids. The same goes for Hep B, you have to have direct contact, not a small scratch. You are fine but if you continue to worry make an appointment with your doctor and discuss it with them. Can some one get HIV or hepatitis B infection if someone is accidently scratched by finger nail of that person
Not a very good chance of it, especially if there was no blood on the fingernail. If there was blood on the fingernail prior to the scratch I would say yes there is a good possibility. The HIV virus is not killed immediately upon being exposed to air, it will die overtime, or with bleach, or sometype of antiviral. I think you are okay here though.
    No. Not at all

If you wanna know more details on it. Take a look into the below link. Its actually good. It will answer even other questions if you have on AIDS and Hepatitis.

    AIDS: http://www.sfaf.org/aids101/transmission鈥?/a>

    Hepatitis B: http://www.dhpe.org/infect/hepb.html
If that nail has stains of fresh blood then there is a chance of getting transmitted. other wise there is a little chance of getting HIV or Heptitis infection.....
no only open cuts can transmit the disease.

There is a prescription medication called Lamisil that is especially for fungal infections of the nail.

    www.lamasil.com

Take care and be well! :)
Lamasil will work, but can damage your liver. Penlac is like nail polish, but you have to keep applying it, or the fungas will come back. The other thing you can do is let your nails look ugly, it probably won't hurt you.
you may need prescription medicine that you ingest if the athletes foot creams do not work, be careful, foot fungus spreads very easily to places like armpits and genitals because they are usually dark, covered and moist. Make sure your feet dry very well after taking a shower. then put the cream on. Avoid wearing shoes and socks whenever possible and wear flip flops everywhere so that you dont spread the disease by contacting the floor.
It depends on how serious it is. If it's not too severe, yes, go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist which medicine works most effectively. If more serious, go to a podiatrist and let him take care of the problem. Remember, don't ignore it ...........it can spread to your other toes and THAT CAN BE A REAL PROBLEM, BABYBEEEE!

    Good Luck.
    EEEEwwww go see a pediatrist.

    Toe infection/ingrown toe nail?

get it removed by a foot doctor. Best thing i ever didToe infection/ingrown toe nail?
    Ahhh, yes?Toe infection/ingrown toe nail?
my teenage daughter had this problem a lot. had to have the nail removed on both big toes, then the doc put a medicine[ some kind of acid form ] that killed the nail in the corners so it wouldn't grow down in the toe anymore. All this was painful, but worth not having the problem anymore. You have to go to a doctor. good luck
    Yes
My friend had an ingrown toenail and it had to be removed so the the new nail could grow in effectively, as far as infection goes im not sure.

Yes this most likely is an infection brewing . The signs of infection are red lines and feeling hot in the area ..

I would say that a call to your PCP is in order to rule this out . The longer you wait the harder it will be to treat , you can also loose function or the finger from gangrene if not treated .

PLEASE HELP! I have an infection on the side of my finger near the nail bed?

I was grabbing something and the nail broke horizontally, causing me a lot of pain since it would bend at the crack, etc.

I was due for a new acrylic fill anyway %26amp; usually when they apply a new layer of bond it strengthens the entire nail and the pain subsides.

This time however, it felt better for a day, but now I'm in extreme pain. I checked the nail and it appears that the skin was possibly stuck to the side with glue, etc. Usually you just pull the skin away and it goes away.

I keep pulling the skin away, but it's not helping. The area is swollen and thin white pus is coming out, and now the area's turning red, etc. and the pain is so excrutiating I can't use the finger at all now.

I've been applying bactine several times a day and antibiotic last night.

Can anyone else recommend a course of action to heal it.

i.e., do I soak it? Do I put steriodal cream on it?

I don't want for it to develop into a worse infection.

I appreciate your help!!!!PLEASE HELP! I have an infection on the side of my finger near the nail bed?
you have a pretty nasty infection and it could get worse it not treated with oral antibiotics soon.

make an appointment to see your doctor within 24 hours.

wash finger with warm water and mild soap (ivory or dove work best) things with dyes or perfumes will irritate it more.

apply a thin layer of neosporin to the wound and wrap the finger in gauze wrap. this will help keep other dirt and germs from entering and also help to treat the germs that are already there.

take ibuprofen for pain and swelling. take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.

    report to the er if:

-you start running a fever of 101.0 or higher

-you see red lines extending from your finger up your hand and arm (this indicated the infection has gotten into your bloodstream and you'll need i.v antibiotics asap)

-your finger begins to swell more, has increased redness,or the pus changes to a green or brownish-yellow color.

these are all signs the infection has gotten worse and you'll need i.v medication to treat it.PLEASE HELP! I have an infection on the side of my finger near the nail bed?

My daughter is getting a green infection under her finger nails?

My daughter is 3 years old. In june said she slammed her finger in a door, though she never complained of it. Ine day we noticed her finger nail swollen, green and black with puss oozing out of it. It only got worse. We went to the doctor and he burned a hole in it and the nail fell off. Well, now shes getting the same thing again! Its covered 1/3 of her nail on one finger and on another hand she has it starting and its the size of the tip of a pen. Her doctor insists she has had trauma or a splinter and to let it work its way out. But, if it just spreads how will it work its way out? I am scared that my daughters finger nails will fall off one by one. Any advice would be great. I also have picutes I can e-mail.My daughter is getting a green infection under her finger nails?

fill a tea cup with dettol or other disinfectant and immerseI have a infection in my finger, below my nail, looks like a pocket of septic stuff, its hot anf throbbing?
sounds like you need a good dose of anti-biotics.

Put the finger in hot water as hot as you can stand it, then try giving it a squeeze, but you'll have to keep it really clean!
Sounds like a whitlow see your pharmacist for a poultice/cream in the meantime keep it covered.
sure, drain it and soak your finger in peroxide at least twice a day
you'll need to go to the hospital, what they'll do is put a hot needle through you nail to relieve the pressure, my dad has has this done, go to a%26amp;e after work.
Make an emergency appt with your GP after work, he/she should be able to do something.

But, honestly, I think this warrants taking time off work. An infection is not good, and could spread if it's not dealt with.
Forget about it and just take new typing lessons - that way you can keep in touch AND have a complaint!!!!
Magnesium Sulphur will draw out any infection, you can get it from any chemists, put the paste on the plaster, not your finger then put the plaster on the wound.

Works a treat, you may have to use if for a couple of days
If it is hot and throbbing, more than likely you have an infection. You do not want to bust the pocket open. Try soaking it in a warm epsom salt soak and see a doctor as soon as possible. You more than likely are going to need antibiotics to cure the infection.
burst it with a sterilised needle don't use a pin though cos its made of different metal and can cause blood poisoning. popping it with a needle sounds painfull but wont hurt a bit.
dont burst it yourself get it done by a pro
    Go to your G.P
you shouldn't burst it your self
Go to a doctor and let him decide. Don't mess with it yourself you are just going to make it worse.
Drain it if you can. That will take out allot of the infection and presure, then hit it with some alcohol if you can. it will help.
Go to your local mineral shop and buy some sulphur. Attach it to the finger with a plaster. And it should draw all the puss out.
its infected... is the stuff like a greenish yellow?? gross.... i'm a nail biter. 22 years going strong....... wash really good, put some anti bac, and sometimes it feels good if you put some pressure on it...(wrap in baby wipe and gently squeeze).... when it feels better, get some sleep and see a doctor in the morning.
You can give it a hot poultice - hot cloth - wetted with v hot water - wrap around your finger quite tightly and take some anti-inflammatory drugs and paracetemol for the swelling and the pain.

You really should go to a doctor though - are there any GPs near to where you work? Did you know that you can see ANY doctor in an emergency? You just have to give a few deatils in at reception. You should also get an urgent appointment with a doctor nearby as it is obviously urgent.

Try ringing them up and see if they can fit you in asap. I'm sure your boss won't mind you leaving for half an hour.
This sounds like a paronychia. It needs assessing and draining and possibly some antibiotics.

You should not do this yourself. See your friendly medic.

    Good luck
Put yourfinger in a bowl of hot water as hot as you can stand.do this regularly its like a poultice.this causes the blood vessels to expand so eventually they expand so much they burst and the infection is released.keep clean after that
Leave work and go back to a hospital - simple as that..

You could end up with blood poisening etc. so it's not the sort of thing you should mess with.

it needs sorting %26amp; sooner, rather than later
You have an infection. I don't think you want to stick it or anything. You need to see a GP. He/she will give you an antibiotic to take orally.
i would imagine that what they would do in hospital is trephinne the nail. this is a proceedure where a hot needle is passed through the nail (painlessly) just to the point of hiting the underlying tissue, to release the pressure (and therefore the pain) and to allow the pus and infected fluid to drain. i cannot advise that you attempt this yourself, it must be done by healthcare professionals, i live in england and am a staff nurse at a large hospital so i dont understand your healthcare system, money wise. if you were to attempt a trephine, use a small hypodermic needle and heat it to over a hundred degrees centigade before injecting your nail. as i said, i dont advise this as the best way forward, and you should see a qualified medical practioner. the build up of pressure can be very painful!

I used to have an ingrown toe nail, i cut it off but the infection is still there?

today i applyed some pressure to the wound and some of the infection came out, this ooze, what can i do with my other toe the infection is worse.I used to have an ingrown toe nail, i cut it off but the infection is still there?
I did the same thing and tryed to do everything to keep from going to the doctor. I soaked my toes in vinager and peroxide together in warm water. Then put neosporin over when using a bandaid. I soaked in Epsom Salt and everything. But I waited too late and it got so painful and infected. I ended up going to a foot doctor and had to get half my toe nail cut off and some of my nailbed taken out. MY advise... don't wait.... go to the doctor. Infections can get into your bloodstream or go deep into the bone if not caught before hand. The doctor said I almost waited too late. The infection (redness and puffiness) was starting to go up my toe and foot.I used to have an ingrown toe nail, i cut it off but the infection is still there?
Soak your feet in some olive oil

Get some aloe vera plant and wrap the toe with.
You really need to go see the doctor. You are gonna need an Antibiotic to get rid of the infection and you certainly do not want it to get worse.
Get to a doctor. if the infection gets into your circulatory system it will kill you.
    go see a doc.
go see a dr. you might need antibiodics. also,in rare cases there still may be some nail imbedded in the toe
you need to soak your foot in a tub of peroxide and then go see a doctor.

That is not something to be taken lightly.
Try rubbing hydrogen peroxide on it [or dipping your toe in it], this should clean it out and help kill some of the infection. Then try wrapping a warm cloth around it to help it more so. But if you can squeeze out the pus, that will actually help it.

Then at night put neosporin on it. If the infection gets worse, you need to see a doctor who will surgically remove it- the procedure isn't painful, but they cut the nail out and the infection out. Also, the doctor may give you an antibiotic to help the infection if its real bad.

    But good luck.
It can be hard to get the deep part of the nail out as it tends to curve inward at the sides, so you might not have removed all that needs removal. If it continues to worsen, you might need to see a doctor. Soaking in betadine or chlorhexidine (a few times a day for a few minutes) might be helpful. If this doesn't clear the problem, then off to the doctor you should go.
Well it just depends. Have you attempted to drain it and apply over the counter antibiotic ointment? How bad is the infection? If the toe is oozing and there is swelling and redness I would go see a doctor. With some infections OTC creams don't help. I would really consult your doctor.
like ppl before have said GO TO A DOCTOR! you need to see a pediatrist (foot doctor) get a prescription for anti inflamitory or anti bactirial meds and dont touch it. its like a zit you want to pop it and play with the ooze but that makes it even more soar and red and puffy just leave it alone and go to a doctor's office and get an appointment at the front desk for the soonest possible time. you dont want to have to get it amputated now do you?
Obviously you are not in a position to seek medical assistance. Try foot soaks in Clorox (or comparable bleach product) and tolerable hot soapy water several times a day. This is almost exactly like a professional soak treatment used by MD's for the same. If this doesn't help you might need antibiotics but don't wait too long. Give it about 2-3 days and see what happens. Use about 1/4 cup bleach to a gallon of water and a squirt of dish liquid will work for soap. If you were in a hospital and a soak was ordered it would be chloropactin (powdered bleach) and castile soap (baby shampoo). Don't forget to keep your feet clean and dry after, CLEAN socks!!
It will go away in about three days. You can soak it it alcohol, which may help. If it doesn't, go to the doctor.
You definite should go see your doc.
Go see a doctor already. You shouldn't be fooling around your infected toes.

I have had an ingrown finger nail for over 1 yr. The nail has been removed twice but infection still persists?

Having had the nail removed twice and lastly a sliver of my finger removed the surgeon hoped he had cured the problem. As soon as the new nail gets half way up the finger it automatically becomes infected. His only option is to remove the nail permanently which I am trying to avoid.I have had an ingrown finger nail for over 1 yr. The nail has been removed twice but infection still persists?
Hi I'm lead to believe that if you cut a small v in the middle of the nail at the front and let it grow the v will eventually draw the nail out from where it is growing in. It takes a while for this to happen. so keep on cutting your nails to a decent length. then the v in the middle. hopefully that will help. Good LuckI have had an ingrown finger nail for over 1 yr. The nail has been removed twice but infection still persists?
    Try TeaTree Oil.
Well the best answer to this is to have the complete nail off.I had both off my small toe nails removed about 12 years ago,im glad i did as i had a lot off problems like you.Now im pain free and no problems at all.Why go through all this every time with an infection.

I think I might have got an infection from the nail salon...?

Ok, so Ive always done my nails every 2 weeks at a nail salon. Ive noticed this for awhile and Ive never done anything about it because I guess it never really interfered with my daily activities. But my fingernails are so brittle, and a lighter color than the healthy part of my nail, and they are very sensetive. Although, they are not very short or anything because I have the acrylic nail on top, they are very thin. They still grow but its like the infected part of the nail still grows along with it. Am I making sense? Example: This morning I was driving and idk what I did, but I bent my fingernail back on the steering wheel. Evidently I did it so hard that it broke the acrylic nail along with my real nail right exactly on the line between the healthy part and infected part of my nail.Has this happened to anybody else;not the steering wheel incident, but the infection. Please help..What do you think it could be? Def an infection? What kind? What type of doctor should I see?I think I might have got an infection from the nail salon...?
you would need to see an infectious disease dr. it does sound like u have an infection. acrylics are very bad for you and your nails. they are full of infections and bacterias.

hope you feel better.I think I might have got an infection from the nail salon...?
First go to your county and see if the salon you go to has any health violations on file, you would be surprised!
