Eating yogurt and taking acidophilus, probiotics, garlic capsules will help with the internal fungus infection. Garlic has a strong reputation for counteracting fungal infections. You can also soak the hand/foot in warm water with vinegar added (1 tbsp per quart), and even put some plain yogurt on the nail. Be cautious about using topical ointments since some may contain a topical steroid which might be absorbed into his system and work against his present medications.





It really would be best to seek medical treatment - the medication he is taking can be a contributor to a weakened immune system and this new infection should be addressed.

Generally Colloidal Silver is the best thing to use. It may be found in Health Food Stores or created using a self-made system. It will kill any infection and then he can restore the bacterial balance in his intestines after it is gone. I suggest that you do some research on it. Let me know if I can help there. It can be used topically but it is best for a nail infection to hit it with both topical and internal use to completely rid him of the infection.

Great answer! I have not studied much about such infections for many years and I have forgotten more then I presently know in this area. I believe the others will help but not as quickly as the colloidal silver. The thing is that killing the infection then restoring the bacteria in the intestines is vital to one's overall health.

Fungal Infections in the nail are not life threatening but if you are looking for a topical ointment for his nails, your best bet is to see a podiatrist (foot doctor). I work for one in Euclid, Ohio. There are ointments such as Naftin 1%, Cyclopirox, and Ketoconozole. All of which are prescription only. They are not harmful at all. There is, however another option. You could see if he is able to take the fungal medication tablet called Lamisil 250mg. (generic Terbinafine). It can be harmful to one's liver so it is very important that the doctor check to see if his liver enzymes are normal. If they are he can take the medication for 3 months. After that it well take about a year for his nails to grow out and there is a 10% chance that it won't work. If his enzymes are not normal, he can use the oinments.
