i've had a (fungal) toe nail infection for a while now. my big toe nail is yellow and thick and grows very slowly. sometimes the skin around it and the whole foot itches (if that matters). last year i took prescription pills (generic cuz lamisil was too expensive).. it seemed to work half way then it stopped. now that it's spring i'm getting very conscious about it again.
i've been reading that tea tree oil, vinegar, dr scholl's, and vick's vapor rub helps? can anyone confirm that these work/help? and if so... how to use it. also if i try these is it best to try one at a time?
by the way, i'm going to aruba in a month :( how embarassingToe nail infection! please help?
I think the best thing to do is to go to a good doctor and get it taken care of. Sometimes they can do minor surgery and sometimes they'll prescribe something, maybe better than yoru last prescription. If you go to a doctor, you can ask about the home treatments as well [if they're safe, if they'll help/work] because who knows maybe help from a doctor and at home treatment will both help. Good luck!!Toe nail infection! please help?
Sounds like a fungus to me. If you press gently on your skin, can you see little tiny bubbles within the skin? That's the Athlete's Foot Fungus. Purchase some anti-fungal cream or spray like Tinactin. Apply it all over the toe area. Apply it inbetween the surrounding toes, on the cuticle, on the nail and on any part of your foot that is dry, red or itchy.
Buy brand-new, white cotton socks. Do not wear thin socks, dress socks or socks that are heavy colors (because of the dyes in them). Replace your socks regularly. Do not ever, ever wear shoes without socks. If you have, throw the shoes away or spray them thoroughly with anti-fungal spray. Start applying a drying-powder to your shoes to absorb any moisture that would cause your feet to harbor bacteria or fungus while wearing the shoes.
If the toenail is too far-gone, it may need to be removed by a doctor. You toenail may even fall off on it's own.
You can get cures in the foot section of the store....such as ';Fungi-Cure';. You just brush on like nail polish, it works.....
***Edit: this isn't pills. It's a clear liquid you brush on and it dries in a minute..........
